There are approximately 950,000 caribou in Alaska including a few northeastern herds that are shared by both Alaska and the Yukon Territory of Canada. From this population, hunters typically shoot about 22,000 caribou each year.

Most all caribou hunting trips involve some sort of air charter flight to access the hunting area. Outfitters use aircraft, rafts, pack horses, and good old backpacks to complete the journey into the desired hunting areas. There you will stay in some sort of wilderness lodging that could be in the form of a full service hunting lodge to a hunting camp comprised of tents or rough remote hunting cabins.

Alaska caribou drop camp trips include unguided hunts where you are dropped off in the designated area on your own and picked up at a later predetermined date.
