Alaska Hunting Emergency Orders Emergency orders are used to open and close hunting or trapping seasons or areas. These amend or supplement the 2004-05 hunting and/or trapping seasons and bag limits as described in Alaska Hunting and Trapping Regulations, No. 45. Come back and read this often.

Alaska Hunters Education Requirements: The Board of Game passed regulations requiring that hunters born after January 1, 1986 must be HE certified to legally hunt in units 7, 13, 14, 15 and 20 or be under the direct immediate supervision of an adult (16 years old and up) who is HE certified.

Do you need a guide? Guide Requirements for Hunting: A nonresident who hunts brown/grizzly bear, Dall sheep, or mountain goat must be personally accompanied by a licensed guide OR by an Alaska resident over 19 years of age who is within the “second degree of kindred.”[ Read More ]

What are (GUA) Guide Use Area? Alaska is divided into 26 unique (GMU) Game Management Units. Some Game Management Units have only one Guide Use Areas while others have multiples GUAs.
A Registered Guide or Master Guide must register annually with the department the Guide Use Area which they will be providing big game services in, at least 30 days prior to providing big game services.
The Registered Guide or Master Guide is limited to three Guide Use Areas per year. All Guide Use Areas expire annually on December 31.
It is unlawful for a Registered Guide or Master Guide to contract, to provide big game services in a Game Management Unit for which they are not certified or a Guide Use Area (GUA) they are not registered for.
